Information to Keep Your Car From Being Stolen

Nobody wants to get ready to go somewhere, lock up their house and then suddenly look up and there is an empty spot where your car was parked. This is a major blow and can make you instantly feel like you were personally violated. Our car is an extension of ourselves and having your car stolen right from under your nose is an extremely hurtful shock. If you take the precautions that are recommended to prevent this criminal act hopefully it will never happen to you and you will never have that feeling that your heart just stopped beating.

It is very important to make your car theft-proof and there are many different ways to accomplish this. The main thing is to make it as hard as possible for a car thief to steal your car. Number one on the list of precautions is to park your car in a garage if you have one. Even if you're only going to be at home for a few minutes parking your car in the garage will save you a lot of grief. Car thieves look for the easiest possible car to steal and if it is out in the open and visible that is just what they are looking for.

The next item on the list of precautions is to never leave your keys in the car because you never know who is lurking around your neighborhood looking for just that type of thing. Never leave your car running while you just run in someplace for a minute, it only takes a few seconds for a thief to jump in your car and take off. The car thief is always looking for a chance to make a quick kill so don't give them any ammunition. Also, it is not a good idea to leave a spare key anywhere on your vehicle because car thieves know where to look to find that little magnetized box with your extra key in it. It is better to carry a spare key in your wallet or your purse just in case you do misplace your set of keys.

It is also recommended to put items of value out of sight such as in your trunk in order not to tempt any type of thief. When you park your car somewhere do not leave a window cracked open and always close the sunroof completely. If you're parking your car in a strange neighborhood look for the best lighted area in a place where there is traffic moving most of the time.

Anti-theft gadgets are also on top of the list for the prevention of theft. If you don't have a car alarm, use a steering wheel lock. Anything to cause the thief to have second thoughts about stealing your car is highly recommended. One thing that you should have on hand in case your car is stolen is a copy of the cars registration so that when you report the theft to your local authorities you can give them the necessary information about the vehicle thus giving them a better chance of recovering your car.
