Do You Need Young Driver Insurance?

Some people think that young driver insurance is age related rather than licensing time related. I have a friend who has been working overseas for the past 15 years and has held a licence and a comprehensive insurance policy in that country all the time but when he returned home to live in Australia he had to get re-licensed in New South Wales because they didn't accept his existing driving licence from Malaysia.

He has resettled into a regional country town in NSW Australia and they don't have any Bahassa interpreters handy to translate the license and he needed to drive immediately. The comment made was that as far as the Motor Vehicle Registry Office was concerned, the licence could well have been for driving a lawn mower so at least a sense of humour was displayed. He sat the test and got his Australian drivers licence within days

Naturally, among his friends it has been a great joke even though he is considerably embarrassed at having to drive with P-plates again. As he has a teenage daughter also on the same "P's" at least they don't have to keep taking them on and off.

So if you are a mature driver getting re-licensed or licensed for the fist time don't be dismayed or surprised at having trouble getting a suitable insurance policy for young drivers. This is not treating you unfairly it is simply the insurance company covering themselves because they consider you are not yet an experienced driver.
It does take years to become an experienced driver and to gain that experience takes time. There can be no short-circuiting this because theres simply no other way to become experience. If you are in need of young driver insurance for you and your car then be sure to shop around and compare terms and conditions available in each companies policies that you get quotes from because they do vary greatly. The only thing they don't vary too greatly on is the cost and the only way this will change is if you prove to them that you are a trouble free and responsible young driver and start the years of clocking up those 'no claim' bonus points.
